WE SUPPORT GOOD JOBS IN BAYONNE

The text of the petition is below and a pdf can be downloaded here (pdf). Dear Mayor Doria and City Council Members:
With plant closings in Bayonne and the area, our City has suffered the loss of thousands of good jobs. For those without college educations, decent-paying jobs are harder and harder to find. MOTBY was given to Bayonne by the Army for $1 so that the land could be used as container port to cushion the blow of the base closing that cost the city thousands of good government jobs.
We, the undersigned citizens of Bayonne, believe that providing decent employment opportunities for us and our children is an urgent and pressing need that should be prioritized over the development of luxury housing for the rich, which will be way beyond the reach of Bayonne residents.
A port at MOTBY would bring many good jobs and millions in tax revenue. We request that the City fulfill its obligation to use MOTBY to maximize employment opportunities for us and our children by developing a container port. Don’t waste this opportunity to improve our future.
