Mission Statement of ILA Local 1588

It is the mission of our union to improve our lives, the lives of our families and the lives of our communities, where we work and where we live. Our union must build solidarity and support and protect every warehouse and waterfront worker in order to win decent wages, fair benefits and a just retirement. We do this by:

• Fighting for strong contracts that end tiers and strive for justice and equality among all members.

• Running an honest, democratic union, worthy of the trust of the membership and our community.
• Ensuring safe and healthy working conditions so that we can return to our families in the same condition as when we left for work.
• Being politically active and supporting legislation that is good for working families.
• Organizing all workers on the waterfront to protect our contracts and build our union's power.
• Educating our members and our communities about our current struggles for justice.
• Protecting the pride, dignity and respect of waterfront workers.
• Fighting harassment, discrimination, and unfair treatment.
